The edges of the cape are finished using the selvedge edges of the fabric to further the feathery feel of the piece. A selvedge edge serves as the removable belt as well.
This cape is made of a custom merino wool & cotton textile called “Carvings”, designed and woven in Chicago by The Weaving Mill, based on drawings by artist Nuria Montiel. After coming off the loom, the fabric is felted slightly to create a textural play between the merino wool and the more stable cotton. The result is a soft, warm, and breathable cloth, reminiscent of a lightweight blanket.
Each piece comes with a pin made of matching fabric, to decorate and arrange the cape to your liking.
All pieces are cut in our Chicago workshop and sewn by stitchers whom we employ directly (without the use of contractors or piecework), using a slow fashion model of manufacture, wherein workers are paid a living wage. Our pieces are made one-by-one, and can be customized to your measures and preferences.
